Hyundai of Tempe Report: 2012 Elantra Earns Residual Value Award
November 29, 2011 by HyundaiDifference, under Hyundai Awards, Hyundai Elantra.
Most car buyers consider sticker price to be the most important number when choosing a new vehicle, but there’s another important number to consider that isn’t found on a window sticker: the resale value.
A car’s resale value is an important factor to consider when considering a new car to buy since depreciation is typically a car buyer’s primary expense during ownership.
Just days after we announced that the 2012 Hyundai Tucson received a Best Resale Value Award from kbb.com, another Hyundai of Tempe – the 2012 Elantra – has been named the best compact car in terms of depreciation.
The 2012 Hyundai Elantra has just won a Residual Value Award from ALG for the second year in a row. Unlike kbb.com’s Best Resale Value Awards, which recognize which vehicles maintain the best value after five years of ownership, ALG’s Residual Value Awards recognize which new vehicles are predicted to retain the highest percentage of their original price after the first three years of ownership.
“The Elantra’s eye-catching sporty profile and upscale interior, combined with Hyundai’s increasing image of quality, earn the model its second consecutive win in the Compact Car segment,” said Raj Sundaram, ALG. “High demand and minimal incentives also help it nab the top spot.”
The 2012 Elantra sets the bar in the compact sedan category offering a “class-above” midsize car interior volume, modern design, outstanding fuel economy, and loads of comfort and convenience features, all at an attractive starting price. Elantra also delivers standard advanced safety technologies including a new Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) system to optimally manage Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and the Motor-Driven electric Power Steering (MDPS).
“Hyundai’s Elantra stands out in the competitive compact segment, offering innovation, content, style, and 40 mpg highway standard fuel economy,” said Mike O’Brien, vice president, Product and Corporate Planning, Hyundai Motor America. “Strong residual value is an important element in Hyundai’s overall value equation, reducing the overall cost of ownership and allowing us to offer customers the Hyundai Assurance Trade-In Value Guarantee.”
The Trade-In Value Guarantee is the newest addition to the Hyundai Assurance suite of programs. It eliminates concern about depreciation by giving Hyundai owners a guaranteed value for their vehicle in months 24 through 48 of ownership.
Call Hyundai of Tempe or stop into our Tempe Hyundai dealership to find out more about Hyundai’s amazing Trade-In Value Guarantee and test drive a Hyundai Elantra today.

Hyundai Elantra Named “Best Car For College Students”
November 16, 2011 by HyundaiDifference, under Hyundai Elantra.
Looking to buy a safe and reliable car for your college student? Look no further than the Hyundai Elantra, which has been named one of the Best Cars for College Students by U.S. News & World Report.
“The best cars for college students are cars that balance the need to keep college students safe on the road with the need to stay on budget – and the student’s desire to have a stylish car with the right combination of interior features,” writes U.S. News.
“The Base Hyundai Elantra gets 40 mpg on the highway, which means students won’t be able to cite gas prices as an excuse for not coming home once in a while. While optional features include upscale amenities like heated rear seats, standard features on the Elantra include satellite radio and a USB port for music. Plus, the Elantra is one of the roomiest small cars on the market, so it works not only for college students, but also new grads and 20-somethings who may be getting married and starting families.”
All of the cars on U.S. News & World Report’s Best Cars for College Students list have earned Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick status for their excellent performance in IIHS crash tests. They also have key safety features like stability control and anti-lock brakes.
Safety doesn’t have to be boring or expensive, though. The Hyundai Elantra has tons of features that college students will like and a price tag that parents won’t mind. But if tuition bills make buying a new car a stretch, Hyundai of Tempe also has plenty of used Elantra models to ease your financial burden.
Have a kid who isn’t quite a college student yet? The Hyundai Elantra was also named one of the Best Cars for Teens by Consumer Reports, thanks to its safety, reliability, low price and fuel-efficiency.
Stop by Hyundai of Tempe today to test-drive the student- and teen- friendly Hyundai Elantra!

Hyundai Maintains #1 Spot for Brand Loyalty on KBB.com
October 24, 2011 by HyundaiDifference, under Dealership News, Hyundai Accent, Hyundai Elantra, Hyundai Veloster.
When it comes to brand loyalty, Hyundai owners take the cake, according to Kelley Blue Book, which reports Hyundai upheld its No. 1 spot for brand loyalty on www.kbb.com for the third quarter of 2011, marking its the second consecutive quarter as the top automotive brand.
Innovative product introductions like the all-new Elantra (pictured above), Accent and Veloster are bringing Hyundai owners back to dealerships, including right here at Hyundai of Tempe.
“Hyundai owners truly love their cars, so it’s no surprise that their support has pushed us to the top of kbb.com’s brand loyalty rankings,” said Scott Margason, director of product planning for Hyundai Motor America. “From all-new models like the 40 mile-per-gallon 2012 Veloster, to popular models such as Sonata, Elantra and Accent, we continually offer our customers more reasons to remain loyal to our vehicles and our brand.”
Kbb.com defines brand loyalty as “owners of the brand who are currently shopping the same brand for their next vehicle.” Toyota and Subaru followed in brand loyalty by taking second and third place, respectively.
“Hyundai’s loyalty has been relatively high over the past couple of years because owners have been impressed with the level of quality received for the price paid,” said Arthur Henry, market intelligence manager for kbb.com. “However, Hyundai loyalty is now stronger than any other brand because of the impressive and well-received styling of their recently launched and redesigned models.”

Hyundai of Tempe’s Genesis and Elantra Win 2011 Motorist Choice Awards
September 30, 2011 by HyundaiDifference, under Dealership News, Hyundai Awards, Hyundai Elantra, Hyundai Genesis.
For the second year in a row, two Hyundai of Tempe models have been honored with a 2011 Motorist Choice Award – the Hyundai Genesis for “Luxury Lifestyle” and the Elantra for “Value.”
The Motorist Choice Awards, by automotive research groups AutoPacific and IntelliChoice, recognize which vehicles deliver both the highest customer satisfaction and the lowest total cost of ownership. The results are based on survey data from 72,000 vehicle owners who rate their recently purchased 2011 vehicle using 48 key attributes covering the entire ownership experience.
“The Motorist Choice Award methodology is designed to help consumers identify vehicles that speak to their hearts and their wallets,” said Tyler Schulze, vice president and general manager of IntelliChoice. “The 2011 award winners all share a connection with buyers from both a satisfaction standpoint and overall value as compared to their peers. Based on this compelling combination, we are pleased to recommend these vehicles to consumers as a guide for good purchase decisions.”
This is the second year in a row that the Hyundai Genesis and Hyundai Elantra have taken home a Motorist Choice Award, demonstrating just how satisfied Genesis and Elantra owners are with their purchase.
“With power and technology features rivaling more expensive vehicles in the luxury segment, Genesis is a great option for car buyers seeking quality and reliability,” said Scott Margason, director Product Planning, Hyundai Motor America. “Additionally, with class-above interior volume and excellent 40 mpg highway fuel economy, Elantra certainly brings outstanding value to the mid-size segment.”

Hyundai of Tempe Report: Elantra Touring Earns “2011 Best Cars for Families” Award
September 26, 2011 by HyundaiDifference, under Dealership News, Hyundai Awards, Hyundai Elantra Touring.
When it comes to buying a family car, it’s really very simple, according to the auto editors at U.S. News & World Report: “If you have the right family car, spending time in it is enjoyable for the whole family. The wrong family car can make time on the road uncomfortable, frustrating and expensive.”
With the U.S. News “2011 Best Cars for Families” list, you can decide which car will best fit your family’s needs based on reliability ratings, long-term ownership costs and which vehicles impress car reviewers the most with their family-friendly features and space, while also keeping families safe and on budget.
Taking top honors for “Best Wagon for Families” was the Hyundai Elantra Touring, which boasts tons of cargo space. According to U.S. News:
“Some families don’t need an SUV, but that doesn’t mean they don’t need a lot of cargo space. That’s where the Hyundai Elantra Touring steps in, with its 65.3 cubic-foot maximum cargo capacity, a figure that trumps the Honda Fit’s maximum cargo space by 8 cubic feet. Of course, you’ll only get that figure if you fold down the rear seat, but even with three kids in tow, you’ll have 24.3 cubic feet to spare.”
In addition to naming the Hyundai Elantra Touring the “Best Wagon for Families,” U.S. News also named it the “Best Car for the Money.”
The Elantra Touring isn’t the only family-friendly car at Hyundai of Tempe. The Hyundai Sonata and Elantra were both named “2011 Best Cars for Teens” by Consumer Reports, while the Hyundai Accent was voted one of kbb.com’s “2011 Top Back-to-School Cars.”

Hyundai of Tempe Report: Arizona IKEA Stores to Offer Electric Car Charging Stations
September 23, 2011 by HyundaiDifference, under Dealership News, Hyundai Accent, Hyundai Elantra, Hyundai Fuel Economy, Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, Hyundai Veloster.
IKEA is making it easier for Arizona drivers to charge their electric cars by announcing plans to install EV charging stations at select stores in Arizona, California, Oregon and Washington.
The IKEA EV charging station pilot program, which will start this fall and last through the end of 2012, is part of a partnership with ECOtality to host Blink electric vehicle charging stations at select IKEA stores in the Western United States. No official announcement has been made as to which IKEA stores will receive the charging stations, but Arizona is one of the states being considered. IKEA stores selected for the pilot program will have a minimum of two Blink electric vehicle charging stations.
“We are excited this partnership will make charging stations more accessible to the many people choosing to drive electric vehicles,” said Mike Ward, IKEA U.S. president. “Hosting charging stations at IKEA locations known for regional draws furthers our commitment to a smaller carbon footprint and technological opportunities that help protect the environment. This project is part of a global effort to promote the sustainable transport of people.”
Walgreens to Also Add EV Charging Stations
IKEA isn’t the only major retail chain hoping to install electric-vehicle charging stations by the end of 2011. Walgreens also announced in July plans to install 800 EV charging stations at its drugstores before the end of the year.
The EV stations will be built and serviced by 350Green, and they will roll out in New York first. Other stations will be built at Walgreens in Boston, Denver, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. and in select locations in Florida, New Jersey, Oregon, Tennessee and Washington.
Buying Electric v. Hybrid
As more major retailers begin installing EV charging stations, we predict car buyers will feel more comfortable with choosing an electric vehicle as their major mode of transportation.
With that said, all-electric cars aren’t exactly a favorite amongst car buyers, which so far tend to prefer hybrids. That’s why in addition to focusing on producing ultra-fuel-efficient gasoline models, Hyundai recently debuted its first hybrid model, the 2011 Sonata Hybrid.
The 2011 Sonata Hybrid – on sale now at Hyundai of Tempe – has been a major hit at our Tempe Hyundai dealership since it arrived, thanks to its insanely attractive styling, class-leading leg room, and impressive 40 mpg fuel efficiency.
If you still prefer a gasoline engine over a hybrid, Hyundai offers several models that also achieve 40 mpg, including the Elantra, Accent and Veloster.
You can check out all these fuel-efficient Hyundai models at Hyundai of Tempe, which carries the largest selection of Hyundai models out of any Hyundai dealer in Tempe, Phoenix, Mesa and Scottsdale.

Hyundai of Tempe Report: Elantra & Azera Win 2011 Ideal Vehicle Awards
September 21, 2011 by HyundaiDifference, under Dealership News, Hyundai Accent, Hyundai Azera, Hyundai Elantra, Hyundai Genesis, Hyundai Sonata.
Over the past couple years, Hyundai has put incredible effort into becoming much more than just the car company with the great warranty. More emphasis has been put into providing quality vehicles with excellent fuel efficiency and an even better price, and the effort has paid off.
Hyundai has received just about every major award from car critics and automotive experts for their newly redesigned 2011 models, but it’s their latest award that shows just how far Hyundai has come in the eyes of its most important critic – car buyers.
Automotive research and consulting firm AutoPacific recently awarded two Hyundai models a 2011 Ideal Vehicle Award (IVA), which reveals the vehicles that most closely match their owner’s desires.
“Everyone has had the experience of wanting to change something after you’ve bought it and experienced it for a while. This is especially true of vehicles,” says AutoPacific President George Peterson. “This research recognizes the vehicles that owners want to change the least.”
In other words, the vehicles that already match their owner’s demands.
2011 Ideal Vehicle Awards
To come up with their 2011 Ideal Vehicle Award winners, AutoPacific poured over more than 72,000 consumer surveys. To determine the winners, owners rated their new car or truck on how close it came to “ideal” in 15 different categories ranging from power and acceleration to safety features and storage. The vehicles that customers said they would change the least were considered the most “ideal.”
Hyundai received two Ideal Vehicle Awards this year. The Hyundai Elantra beat out its top rivals, the Ford Focus, Mazda 3 and Volkswagen Jetta, to nab the #1 spot in the Compact Car segment, while the Hyundai Azera beat out the Toyota Avalon, Dodge Charger and Ford Taurus in the Large Car segment.
Overall, Hyundai scored second in the Popular Brand ranking, trailing only Chrysler.
Hyundai also had three other models – the Sonata, Genesis Coupe and Accent – perform well in their respective categories, ranking high in the Ideal Vehicle ranks.
“It’s getting harder and harder to measure quality differences in today’s vehicles,” said George Peterson, president, AutoPacific. “Consumers need better insights into which vehicles will meet their ideal for comfort, ride and handling, cargo space, and other attributes that are experienced on a daily basis. IVA winners deliver the most of what consumers are really looking for in their vehicles.”
“Having our models recognized for AutoPacific’s 2011 Ideal Vehicle Awards is a testament to the hard work and dedication that goes into all the vehicles in the Hyundai lineup,” said Scott Margason, director Product Planning, Hyundai Motor America. “At Hyundai, we strive to exceed customer expectations in safety, quality, value and performance, and look forward to continuing to develop more award winning vehicles as we bring the 2012 Accent and Veloster to market this year.”
Hyundai also excelled in this year’s AutoPacific Vehicle Satisfaction Awards. The Hyundai Genesis won in the Aspirational Luxury Car segment for the third year in a row, the Elantra took top honors in the Compact Car segment and the Sonata topped the Premium Mid-Size Car segment and also took home the first-ever President’s Award for All-Time Highest Satisfaction.

Hyundai of Tempe Report: First Photos of New Hyundai i30 Revealed
September 12, 2011 by HyundaiDifference, under Dealership News, Hyundai Elantra, Hyundai Rumors.
Hyundai of Tempe just got its hands on the first official photos of the new-generation Hyundai i30, ahead of the car’s world premiere at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA) this week. The new i30 photos show an exciting new look for Hyundai’s best-selling C-segment hatchback in Europe, which is rumored to be making its way to U.S. dealerships soon.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw a version of the i30 sometime next year in the U.S. market,” Miles Johnson, a Hyundai Motor America spokesman, told Inside Line this August.
Inside Line reports that the Hyundai i30 could replace the Hyundai Elantra Touring model in the U.S. The 2012 Elantra Touring is based on the original i30 wagon.
Since its 2007 launch, the Hyundai i30 has been one of the best-selling models for Hyundai in Europe. Designed and engineered at the Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Centre in Rüsselsheim, Germany, the new-generation i30 represents a further evolution of the unique Hyundai form language, ‘fluidic sculpture’, displaying the company’s distinctive design DNA.
“We expect the new-generation i30 to appeal to young, progressive buyers who want a car that not only performs well but looks great too. In this way, the new-generation i30 will contribute to future sales success, growing brand awareness and improving perceptions of Hyundai among European consumers.”
Photos of the new Hyundai i30 show a sleek, unique-looking hatchback with a distinct bow-shaped grille and mirroring lower fascia. The hexagonal-shaped grille that’s part of the new “face” of Hyundai and is also used on the 2012 Elantra.
No official word on if the i30 will make it across the pond to local Hyundai dealerships yet, but you can check out its cousins, the Hyundai Elantra and Elantra Touring, at Arizona Hyundai dealership Hyundai of Tempe.

What Compact Car Should I Buy? Hyundai Elantra vs. Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla
August 12, 2011 by HyundaiDifference, under Hyundai Elantra.
With so many great compact cars to choose from, it can be difficult for car buyers to make a decision. At Hyundai of Tempe, we happen to believe that the Hyundai Elantra tops them all, but we’re not the only ones.
In addition to winning Motor Trend’s 2011 Compact Car Comparison, the car experts at Cars.com also called the Elantra the “top banana” when it recently answered the very common question: “Should I buy a Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra or Toyota Corolla?”
All three are popular compact cars with comparable features, so which one came out on top?
Here’s what the Cars.com experts had to say:
Q: Should I buy a Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra or Toyota Corolla?
Which car should I buy among the 2012 Honda Civic LX, 2011 Hyundai Elantra GLS and 2011 Toyota Corolla LE? I am looking for good resale value and driving experience.
A: The 2011 Elantra won our recent Under 20/Over 35 Shootout, so that would be our recommendation. The Elantra beat out the 2012 Civic, 2012 Ford Focus, 2011 Chevrolet Cruze and 2011 Kia Forte.
The Elantra was top banana because of its handsome styling, well-designed interior and responsive performance. It also posted the second highest gas mileage in a 161-mile test loop with an average of 34.5 mpg.
The Civic placed second, scoring points for having the highest mileage of 36.8 mpg in the test, good acceleration and comfortable seats. It lost points for bland styling, so-so interior quality and a rough, noisy ride.
In the Shootout, the Elantra had a six-speed automatic transmission and higher EPA-estimated fuel-economy ratings of 29/40 mpg city/highway, while the 2012 Civic had a five-speed automatic and an EPA-estimated 28/39 mpg. On the road, however, the Civic proved stingier with gas, underscoring that you can’t depend on specs alone.
Where does that leave the Corolla? Behind the curve in design and economy. It comes with a four-speed automatic and an EPA-estimated 26/34 mpg, plus it isn’t as satisfying to drive as the Elantra or Civic. Moreover, because they are fresher designs, the Elantra and Civic should have higher resale values.
2011 Hyundai Elantra at Hyundai of Tempe
The 2011 Elantra is best compact car choice in terms of resale value, fuel-efficiency, styling and affordability — but don’t just take our (or Motor Trend’s or Car.com’s) word for it. Test drive the 2011 Elantra at Hyundai of Tempe and let the Elantra do the convincing for you.

Hyundai Sonata & Elantra Named Best Cars for Teens by Consumer Reports
July 29, 2011 by HyundaiDifference, under Dealership News, Hyundai Awards, Hyundai Elantra, Hyundai Sonata, Hyundai Sonata Hybrid.
Looking to buy a new or used car in Arizona for your teenage driver? According to Consumer Reports, the Hyundai Sonata and Elantra SE are the best cars for teens in terms of safety, reliability, cost and fuel-efficiency.
Consumer Reports’ 2011 Best Cars for Teens
Handing the keys over to your teenager is one of the scariest times in a parent’s life. The CDC reports that car crashes are the number-one killer of teens, with teen drivers being four times more likely to crash than adults. That’s why putting your new, inexperienced driver behind the wheel of the safest, most reliable car you can afford is of the utmost importance.
Luckily for parents, Consumer Reports helps take the guess-work out of buying a car for your teen by creating a list of the best relatively new, relatively cheap options to keep your kids safe behind the wheel.
First off, Consumer Reports advises parents to stay away from trucks and large SUVs for new drivers, as they tend to have clumsy handling, poor fuel economy, and their high centers of gravity make them more likely to roll over. They also suggest staying away from sports cars and other fast cars for obvious reasons, including that their insurance rates are much higher, and cars that old more than five passengers – your teen has enough to concentrate on without a bunch of rowdy passengers distracting them.
So what does that leave? Consumer Reports suggests parents look to small cars and family sedans, which tend to offer a good balance of controllability, safety and visibility. You should get as many modern safety systems as your budget allows, including anti-lock brakes, curtain airbags, stability and traction control, and good crash test scores. You should also look for a car that has sufficient acceleration to merge onto busy highways, good brakes, and efficient handling.
Based on these criteria, Consumer Reports chose the following models, which not only scored well in their testing but also come available with the recommended safety equipment.
2011 Best Cars for Teens:
* Hyundai Sonata (2006 or later)
* Hyundai Elantra SE (2008 or later)
* Acura TSX (2004 or later)
* Ford Focus sedan (2009 or later)
* Mazda3 Touring (2007 or later)
* Scion xB (2008 or later)
* Volkswagen Jetta (2007 or later)
* Volkswagen Rabbit (2007 or later)
Hyundai Sonata & Elantra at Hyundai of Tempe
The Hyundai Sonata and Elantra are some of the top-selling models at Hyundai of Tempe, thanks to their class-leading fuel economy (2011 Elantra packs a whopping 40 mpg) and numerous awards for safety and value.
In addition to earning the TOP SAFETY PICK from IIHS, the 2011 Hyundai Elantra was named one of the “Top 10 Coolest New Cars Under $18,000” by kbb.com, has been named one of the best fuel-efficient cars from Cars.com, and won first place in Motor Trend’s comparison of the best-selling compact sedans.
Not to be outdone, the 2011 Sonata has been named a “BEST BET” by TrueCar.com, and a “best car for families” by both Kiplinger’s and Parents Magazine/Edmuns.com. The 35-mpg Sonata also comes in a new hybrid version that outshines all other competitors. The 40-mpg Sonata Hybrid is one of only two hybrids on the market that have received both a TOP SAFETY PICK designation from IIHS and a five-star overall safety rating.
Stop by Hyundai of Tempe this weekend to have your teen test drive a brand new 2011 Elantra or 2011 Sonata, or check out one of our Certified Used Hyundai models. Our friendly team will help you pick the best car for your teen – and your budget.
